THE TRUE KHAU GALLI

Hello readers,

Its been a very long leave of absence from my end for which i humbly apologize. But i promise as i promised the originator of this blog and one of my closest friends Mr Mitul Shingadia that soon il start writing about the original khau galli and i shall take you through khau galli stall by stall as and when its possible.

Also may i add that il try to come up with my own blogs which have no relevance with food just life in general, things that i hope will make us think on which i hope il have all my readers inputs.

Till then adieu.

Tandoori Chicken, Biryani & Baida Roti @ Mahim.

After getting a jolt from my friend on my capacity to study, i needed a break. Walking towards the Mahim church from Sitladevi temple, with the likes of Delhi Darbar et all.. my pick for a perfect Tandoori Chicken & Chicken Tikka Biryani was a simple & a subtle place called Hotel Paramount. Located just next to the Makdoom Shah Dargah food lane...this place is full of energy bustling with orders of chicken from all possible corners.

A casual place, recommended by a dear friend & now the co-author of this blog, Vinay Nasta! "Food is in his name!!! This is perfect for people who like Chicken to its core. A simple menu placed at the entrance tells you about Chicken delicacies it serves. My pick was a half Chicken Tandoori. A well marinated and soft chicken was served with mint leaves & salad comprising of shredded onions, cabbage & red chilly powder dressed in salt & pepper dripping. It scored in my taste & quality parameters.

My next pick was Chicken Tikka Biryani, the quantity was sufficing & the pieces were wholesome too. The only drawback was it did not come with a Raita at this place. It was not as spicy as a Biryani lover would want it to be, but it was surely value for money & needed a mention in your menu.

Where?: Towards Mahim church, near Makdum Shah dargah lane
Ambiance?: Not recommended to go with family, can get home a parcel though.
How Much?: Chicken Tandoori (Half) Rs 80, Chicken Tikka Biryani (Half) Rs 55.

Vinay had in advance asked me to keep some place in my appetite for something special... Our next destination was Ehsaan bhai's stall which served Baida Roti (Marinated & minced chicken rolled in Indian Roti or bread & dipped in egg.) For a health conscious person, this place is a strict NO NO. Served plate full dripping with oil, it was a treat to relish & bite over the baida roti which is served with a spicy mint chutney & onions. I'm sure 1 would not be enough to fulfill your hearts content.

So all you foodies, have fun.

Buttermilk & Lassi at Churcgate

All's well that ends well... After my wholesome meal at the ever flourishing "Khau Galli", my next halt was a refreshing end to my spicy lunch of Sezuan Fried rice & Chicken Lollypop. Opposite to the galli alongside Blossom school gate, stands a stall which serves perfect conclusion to a heavy meal.
The buttermilk & Lassi at this Anna's stall is simply a perfect apetite quencher without being heavy on the pocket. I tried the Buttermilk which made me ask for another serving.
A glass full of this drink would be enough to set the tone for the better half of the day. Popularly known as 'Anna's Lassi Stall' this place is a "No Miss" for a regular.
So the next time you are around Khau Galli, do not forget to try this special glass of Lassi or Buttermilk.
Where? Next to SNDT, Churchgate. Alongside Blossom School
How Much - Rs 5 for a glass of Buttermilk
Happy eating & Happy sipping!

CTO Wada Pav - Fountain

People usually rush home after office, i do the same. Today I decided to go for a walk and figure out how i can make my evening worth the while. Mumbai city is incomplete without its very own, common man's delicacy... the Wada Pav. This thought left me looking for a place which would end my search for exceptional Wada Pav.

I found it at the CTO, the Wada Pav stall opposite fountain owned by Ashok Satam.

Served hot...with spicy powder chutney & fried salted chillies, this wada pav is worth relishing after the long day at work. The spice tingles till the end and Rs 8 is worth its price. Filling as it promises to be, i enjoyed every bit of it.

This made my evening worth a mention.

This wada pav is highly recommended for every mumbaikar....

Do not forget to take another bite....oops my vada is down :)

Happy eating!!

Where? - Alongside CTO office, Fountain.
How much? - Rs 8
