Bharat Cafe

I was in Ghatkopar for a meeting. You can guess how meetings usually are. Amidst the hustle bustle and a crowded Ghatkopar station lies a subtle café known as ‘Bharat Café’. The place was suggested to me by my friend. Since it was 5.30 in the evening, we decided to go with snacks. So we ordered for a Misal Pav, It was spicy, appealing and worth its cost. Then we ordered a Cheese Toast Sandwich which would not be too highly rated by me because you could have a better sandwich ad a road side stall which is value for money. Then it was time for Medu wada Sambhar. Trust me it took all the awards from me. It was served piping hot and fresh. With a delectable sambhar. Finally, how could I leave a café without a coffee, so there I was with a zombie of Cold Coffee which was creamy and took care of rest of my day.

When I talk about service, I cannot give them full marks. It would be very unsure to call it Good. The waiters don’t smile nor are they happy to attend you. But then the food makes up for it. The seating and ambience are relaxed unlike usual Udipi restaurants.

So next when you are in Ghatkopar near the station and you are hungry, just run across the road to Bharat Café, I am sure you would not be disappointed. When I talk about costs, the total bill I paid was Rs 118 for a Vada Sambhar, Veg Cheese Toast, Misal Pav and a Cold Coffee. So make sure you are there with your foodie friends here if you want them to bless you… J

Ram Ashraya

In search of palatable food, my steps took me to a crowded yet simple place called Ram Ashraya, With a view where people enter and exit every minute, I was surprised by the way people were managed there. “People come here to eat… and nothing else” is what I said to myself.

As soon as I got inside, I was directed to a table which had two people enjoying their meals already. I ordered a Butter Idli to start with. Trust me it was heaven, it is served single and accompanied with three simple chutneys, the most promising being the ‘mudai’ which is a powder chutney mixed with oil. Then

I ordered an Onion Uttapam, which again stayed to its standards or even exceeded them. The person serving me was on his toes to make sure he replenishes my chutney and sambhar as soon as I finished it. The people who serve water are also alert and make sure your glass is replaced without you asking for it. The bottom line is, I stepped out of the restaurant after paying my bill of Rs 45 + tips of Rs 5. I did not trouble my pocket much and my stomach was happy too… This was indeed a happy eating experience. This is a place for all you people who are ‘on the move’ or would just want some delicious yet simple food without spending too much. So people if you are at Matunga, Ram Ashraya is a place to be…
